Back in the day.

I thought it'd been a while since my last update so as I'm currently working on a project, I thought it might be nice to update with some work from last year that I'd totally forgotten about until a few hours ago.
In the last few weeks of first year we had to opportunity to take part in some workshops, of which I chose 'colour and cloth' and 'digital potentials'. That's basically dyeing and CAD, why not get straight to the point!
We played around with dyeing techniques such as Shibori and just general experimentation without the added pressure of people watching and judging, just yet...

This was my favourite outcome in the dye workshop, just because all the rest were pretty boring. It displays a number of different tones and the strange egg-like motif near the top is fairly interesting and unexpected, created simply from a bobbin! Next to it is just a simple manipulation of the dyed piece and again, just playing around with Photoshop.

Thought I'd lob this one in too, it's basically just a scan of metal caps tied into a fabric then a digital overlay of a sketchbook piece! Simple.
My current project involves florals and colour separation, so that is bound to be a bit more interesting and colourful. Hopefully there'll be obvious progression that is noticeable too!

When Life Gives You Lemons...

...make a blog about apples and oranges.
So today was another Illustrator workshop and I FINALLY feel like I'm getting the hang of it.
What I did was pretty generic, but the overwhelming feeling to update this blog and the happiness level I currently acquire, after completing something fairly successful on Illustrator was just too much to pass up.

So here's the final outcome! Like I said, pretty generic but hopefully I can now experiment a little more and have something more worthy of uploading.

A Little Bird Told Me

I've decided to update my blog today as this is one thing I'd like to keep constant!
So because I've no new recent pieces to show, I've gone back to Project 1 of second year and dug out one of my final CAD samples. The initial word to describe this project was 'Trapped', which began with me experimenting with imagery such as padlocks and gates. To cut a long description short, I guess you could say this piece represents freedom for the nasty bird as it has escaped the cage and chains!
Looking back at it now, it looks quite static so I may just go back into Photoshop and expand on the piece to create more of a fluid feel to it.
Hopefully my next entry will include some work from my current project! Fingers crossed.

Newmor Live Project

A few weeks ago was the start of a new project, but this time with an already established company. We had the opportunity to choose from four companies, of which I chose Newmor; a wall-coverings company specifically for the hospitality sector. Basically if the company enjoyed our suggested products then we would be enjoying a tour of the factory or a fabulous work placement in the valleys of Wales.
Well finally something was successful and the team I was in won the tour! Yippee!
Above is an image of  a few of my final samples, but obviously studying a Textiles course it was necessary to have fabric samples and these seemed to stand out the most. The theme was 'heritage' and I chose to go down the architectural imagery root, making it lovely and royal with the likes of metallics and rich, deep colours. Hopefully this came across in my prints!

Bonjour, je m'appelle Rachel!

So this is my first entry on here so thought I might as well start off with a couple of pieces of work from my first year at university! Manually screen printed, they were about the only two pieces of my work that I thought were successful from last year.
Just to be even more exciting, I'm going to leave it at that! Hopefully next time will be more entertaining!
